It never hurts to have Thom Yorke as a fan. It also never hurts to be all-out gangster. Stephen Ellison, aka FLYING LOTUS, can claim both. And that has resulted in an ever expanding surge of popularity. FlyLo specializes in super cinematic, super brooding electro-hop. He’s the baritone of the dance producer community and some of his shit is just downright scary. FlyLo been around for a minute, but it’s just now all coming together for him. It’s not just cuz of high profile fans like the RADIOHEAD frontman or DIPLO. It’s simply because he lights everyone’s ears on fire.
FlyLo’s gonna get a lot more notorious in light of his eight recently added concert dates. That’s because FLYING LOTUS will be opening for ATOMS FOR PEACE from May 5th – May 17th. Who’s ATOMS FOR PEACE? Oh, that’s just Thom Yorke’s newly-named band assembled to assist Yorke in performing material from his album, The Eraser. Tickets to these shows are gonna sell out immediately and will be really hard to scalp. Yorke even guests on FlyLo’s new LP Cosmogramma, which is set for a May 3rd or 4th release. FlyLo couldn’t have hoped for a better gig. I imagine even INTERPOL would consider trading their place opening for U2 to instead participate in this unique mini-tour. The FLYING LOTUS / ATOMS FOR PEACE tour schedule is below:
New York Roseland Ballroom: May 5th & 6th
Boston Citi Wang Theatre: May 8th
Chicago Aragon Ballroom: May 10th & 11th
Oakland Fox Theatre: May 14th & 15th
Santa Barbara Bowl: May 17th
FLYING LOTUS: Computer Face//Pure Being (off upcoming Cosmogramma)
